Historical struggle of Indonesian 1945-1949 

The Yogya Kembali Monument was built on June 29, 1985. It was started with traditional ceremony of buffalo head burial and the first corner stone planting by Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX and Sri Paduka Pakualam VIII. The idea to built the Monument came from Colonel Soegiarto when he was a city major of Yogyakarta at the time of celebration of Yogya Kembali held by the regional goverment of Yogyakarta on June 29,1983.

The name of Yogya Kembali was chosen to commemorate the historical events when the Dutch army was withdrawn from the city of Yogyakarta on June 29,1949. It was the time of real freedom of Indonesian people from the Dutch occupation.

The building of the Monument with acone shape and consist of three floors had been completety built in 4 years. Yogya kembali Monument was officially opened by The President of Indonesia on July 6, 1989.

EXIBITION PARK

One of the collections in the parksis the cannon PSU 60mm caliber made in Rusia. You may shoot it when visiting the monument.

LISTING NAME OF THE HEROES

The board listing names of the heroes there are 422 names of the heroes died in the region of Wehrkreise III between December 19, 1948 and June 29, 1949.

MUSEUM

There are 4 rooms on the first floor of the museum exhbiting the collection, namely the religia, replica, photos, documents, hearlds, and various types of weapons, the replica general kitchen, all depicting the events of the war for independence between 1945 to 1949.

LIBRARY

The library occupies one room on the first floor, special for historical references on the srunggle for independence of Indonesian people and public can use it.

MULTIPURPOSE ROOM

It is in the middle of the first floor, furnished with the open stage. The events such as  electone music accompanying the anthems performed on every Saturday and Sunday. People can use this room for wedding party, seminar, graduation, and so on. It is completed with chair, sound system, and central AC.

RELIEF

On the external wall of second floor there are 40 reliefs depicting the physical strunggle and diplomacy of Indonesian people from August 17, 1945 to December 28, 1948.

DIORAMA

In the interior of second floor, 10 episodic of physical struggle and diplomacy of Indonesian people from December 19, 1948 to August 17, 1949 in real size are exposed.

GARBA GRAHA

The open room in the third floor is called Ruang Garba Graha or Meditation Rooom. The visitors are expacted to remember the good deeds of our heroes who died in defending the independence, and to pray for their peaceful life in heaven.

PLAYING GROUND

In the playing ground, the children can play with animal boats, pedal kiddy cars, swings and so on.

The Yogya Kembali Monument is open Tuesday through Sunday from 8 am to 4 pm

During the school holiday, Yogya Kembali Monument is open on Monday from 8 am to 4 pm.
